Mexico wins the moral high ground
I have only just found out, but Mexico has made generous offers of help to the victims of Hurricane Harvey. The Mexican government expressed solidarity with the USA, and offered to send troops to aid with distribution of supplies, as well as providing medical teams and staff from rescue agencies.
This is the country that has been accused of so much by the current U.S. President, and the same country he wants to isolate America from, by building a wall along the border. There have been many appeals to help those suffering as a result of this hurricane. Donations to the Red Cross have been suggested, alongside many other disaster relief agencies. Mexico has offered unrestricted physical aid, and there is nothing to suggest that this is anything but genuine.
Not only did America decline this offer, Mr Trump took time to tweet that he will still build the wall, and will ensure that Mexico pays for its construction. Perhaps he should have been concentrating on sorting out this disaster in America’s fourth largest city, but no. Instead, he chose to be rude to a sovereign country and close neighbour, not only rejecting their offer out of hand, but dragging up the issues about the NAFTA trade deal and the wall at the same time.
Does he even know what ‘Diplomacy’ means?
He is like a toddler. Little O is more kind and generous and tolerant than he is and he is 14 months old.

I thought this was really spiteful, and so unnecessary too.

Why is it that Drumpf always has to reach new lows in behaviour.

In view of the situation in Texas, I thought those tweets were disrespectful, as well as childish.
Thanks for your comment, Peggy.

If the boot was on the other foot and Cancún or Mérida had been flooded, I fully expect that while Belize, or Venezuela would offer unconditional support, Trump would be only too glad to sell aid to Mexico

Undoubtedly. And the profits from the increase in oil prices will be welcomed too.

I had to read about it here. then I did a search. Both the real and fake news have not covered this well. As for the balloon (isnt that what something full of hot air should be called short of excrement?), he is too busy selling $40 hats on his website that he promotes by getting off AF1 wearing them to be reasonable
Warmest regards, Theo

It’s a shame those hats are so expensive, or I might get one.
Oh, I forgot. I don’t look good in hats.
Best wishes, Pete.

I just saw this online and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and the Mayor of Houston have both accepted Mexico’s offer. You can bet you won’t hear one word of thanks from Trumps mouth though. Politics should never play into accepting assistance during disasters.

Thanks for that clarification, Kim. Even given the track record, I was appalled at your president’s insensitivity.
Best wishes, Pete.

Honestly Pete, I’ve gotten to the point where nothing he says or does surprises me anymore.😔

Didn’t we do the same when the Netherlands or somewhere offered help. We really are a bloody ridiculous couple of nations. Nations? We don’t deserve the epithet.

I think you are right about Holland offering to sort out our flood plains a while back, but I don’t recall the details.
Good old British Bulldog; stiff upper lip, and bailing out the living room!
Best wishes, Pete. x

The man,as we know, is a buffoon, but a dangerous one.

I can just about tolerate buffoonery, but bad manners is a step too far.
Cheers, Pete.

Cuba made an offer after Katrina and the US said NO…..Cuba gets more hurricanes than any other country and has a lot of experience but since we do not agree with their politics we turn down an offer of help…….I believe that Venezuela offered also and since we may attack them we said no….this is all so damn silly…..chuq
